Why you ask? Just wanted to give ya a heads up that Blizzcon 2011 announced the Pearls of Pandaria graphic novel my Table Taffy Studios and I are working on.
For those unfamiliar with Pearls of the Pandaria the concept was created by the all-mighty Sam-Wise.

This 115 page OGN (Original Graphic Novel) is Blizzard property published through DC Comics': Wildstorm division. The OGN was written by Mickey Neilson.
The team Wildstorm let me assemble to help bring the pages to life are knocking it outta the park. You're all in for a treat.

Down to our last 20 pages, but who's counting?! Wildstorm let me assemble a killer team to work with me... so a HUGE shout out to my Table Taffy Studios team

Below are my W.I.P. I did for my B7 short story while I'm waiting on the script from J.Torres for our B7 webcomic collab.

The webcomic will have new, and exciting plots, and we can't wait to share it with ya.
Also I can't wait for you to see the new designs I did for the webcomic and the world they live in.

The B7 webcomic will be a free comic page a week. We're still figuring out if the new pages will come out on Sundays or Wednesdays.

Once each story arc is finished, I'll put it together in a collected edition along with new exclusive behind the scenes for the making of as well as a look into what's to come for B7, Gumshoes 4 Hire, Little Big Heads and other new IP's.

Dear Blog..... Hi, it's me again. Did ya miss the way I type upon thee onto the ever so lovely little box you ever so graciously provide?
Well, I missed you and that's enough for me. :)

I wanna write about 2 of my favorite childhood cartoons if that's ok, Blog.

Today as I worked I started watching the new Thundercats series. And oh my is it AMAZING. I loved the episode when... Oh, sorry. Yes, you're right, Blog. I don't want to spoil it for you when you get around to watching the series. But let me tell you this....Oh my...the designs by Takahiro Tanaka is mind blowing. The story and the storyboards are incredible, too!
One of my favorite relaunches in a long time. Thank you iTunes for not promoting it, and making me dig in the Warner Bros. network, on the 2nd page at the very bottom where I accidentally stumbled upon the booty last night, and like a moth to a flame burned by the fire (thank you Janet Jackson for those lyrics of wisdom BTW), I was burning a hole in my credit card buying a season pass for the series like there was no tomorrow. Well worth it.

I'm diggin everything about it. Love the shout outs to the original music. I think my favorite design so far for the new Thundercats series is Lion-o's pops! MAN, he is a tough mutha!
Snarf, Wily Kit and Wily Kat are amazing. their personalities are ADORABLE and makes you want to take care of them. haha

Next up, Scooby Doo Mystery Incorporated. Those dang meddlin kids! I am so stoked to be able to work here and there on the new series. Love the direction and look of the it. The series has a very nice modern take on the gang and it's eerie as heck!

Well, today I was assigned my 2nd storyboards for the new Scooby Doo Mystery Inc series. My 1st boards aired for their "The Siren's Song" episode. If you're interested in peeping it you can view it here.

Big thank you to Vic Cook for bringing me in for the previous boards and for giving me another assignment today!

Below is my 2nd boards I have ever done in animation. I was really nervous to tackle it, but I knew I was in good hands with my director, Kevin Altieri. Been a fan of his and Clement Sauve (Lead Character Designer) for the series.

I'm terrible at being on model with another artist's designs, but I tried my darndest to get this as close as I could. :)

I really liked the 180 rule. I've heard of it before, but I never used it until Scooby Doo and G.I.Joe. But I loved problem solving to make it work.. :) Still have a ton to learn though.

I gotta say though, it's nice to teach an old dog like me new tricks. This will be the final look of the bag design. Great correspondence with the company and very professional. I hope this is something I can have new come out each quarter.

It's been a crazy-busy first quarter this year, so many, many, MANY apologies for the lack of updates on my part.

For starters, a couple of exciting projects in the works. I'll be able to reveal them soon enough. :)

I signed off on the proofs for my 2011 art book, Cheeks: Still Together. The book will be first available at San Diego 2011.

Very important ...just a heads up, last year some of the runner-ups didn't claim their prize. Howdy, folks!

Man, what a busy busy weekend it was. I wrapped up my 2011 art book cover, and after going through tons of the name entries for the art book name contest, there was no way for me to walk away without blushing! HAHAHA WOW.... some of you are NAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAASTY!!!!!!!!!!!! HAHAHA

Nonetheless, I can't thank you all enough for participating! Alot of great ones. It was tough to pick the best one. However, I managed to find one that fit for what I'm looking for.

What's the haps on this gorgeous Friday afternoon?

First off, I hope it's going really well. Today is my deadline for my 2011 art book, so I am making the final choice for the book title winner... Thanks for your patience on me picking the winner. Alot of travelling the past couple of months and crazy deadlines...

I am really pumped about this year's book. Alot of diverse stuff from backgrounds, character development, and panels from my creator own ips in it. I feel it has a good balance of roughs and finishes for sure.

Because of your patience.... not only will the winner get 2 books, a high five and good game to boot, but I will select 4 runner ups to get a copy as well. Watch out.... I'm kinda loco, but that's cool with me, if it's cool witchu. :)

Congrats to the winners of our raffle giveaway. Matt Nelson and Timothy Lamb both won our banners that :iconryanbnjmn: Ryan Benjamin and I use for our cons. The cool part is they are both signed and sketched on by the Great Bruce Timm. I feel sorry for the unlucky winner who won Ryan's yucky banner (don't tell him I said that)..... I kid! HAHAHAHA

I am so happy to have met Bruce Timm this year at ECCC. He's one of my all time favorites ever. His style and line economy has sexy written (or should I say drawn) all over it. This was a dream come true for a fanboy like me.

We shared tables next to each other, and boy howdy was I nervous! So nervous I had Ryan sit in my spot through-out the con. It was fun seeing people mix Ryan and I up for each other. HAHA :P

Also, Bruce was such a good sport and pulled the names from the banner bag for the contest for us! A huge thank you to Bruce and everyone that participated!

Although only in the rough stages I couldn't settle on the last take I did of the B7 carrier ship, Ol' Betsy, so I worked it a bit more.

Here's a redesign of one of the B7 crew. I kinda grew away from the original design I did for Pierre/No.2.'s combat gear.

Here's the B7 line-up with him in his civilian clothes, and next to that is the old design of him in his yellow uniform. Not only was the bare chest thing not working for me, but I changed him to his current ethnicity obviously in his civilian version. hahaha To view a larger version of the line-up, please be sure to click the download button to the right of the image, after you follow the link.

Ol' Betsy... That Heffer....

I had to eventually design the mutha ship for the B7 fleet. I got into a groove with it, so I couldn't stop til I saw how the ol' girl would hold up in the Bastion's 7 universe.

Being a huge fan of cruiser-type ships that anime uses for the their sci-fi cartoons, I just couldn't resist injecting it into B7. hahaha

Earlier, my pal, Jerry, asked me what I was gonna name the mutha ship.

Welp... here's how it went down :

Jerry: dude, that joint looks like it's gonna kick some butt. what do you call it? it's gotta be something crazy like Vanishing point or something like that

Me: thank ya, brutha! hmmmm the name.... how about ol' betsy? she can be referred to as the heffer that is ol' betsy. she likes to take her time to graze the world. hahaha

Me, I can't wait to see what Jerry does with Ol' Betsy.... nuff said for now....

Cheeks' Artbook name game 2011

Howdy, gang!

Oh my... where has the time gone?!

Who can guess what time of year it is?

That's right! The "help Cheeks' name his artbook(s)" game! Wait..... What do I see in bold to the left? Artbooks?! What the hay is going on?! Was that a typo? Hellz naw, to the naw-nawz it ain't! You read it correctly. I am putting out 2 artbooks this year. One book will have 99 pages and the other will have 1 page... j/k!

There will be 2 books, fo true! More details about book prices, page count and content later. What's more important is to figure out what to call them! Think of them as a set of books. I'm sure you all know the rules by now.... but here goes

The rules.....
None! Well, do me a solid and please try to keep it clean if it's really your name game entry (haha)! Or at least witty and almost over the line.

deadline is February 28th.

The prize:
Me singing Happy Birfday to you! Well maybe the Hello Kitty earplugs that you'll need when I sing Happy Birfday to ya.

How it works is, whomever I choose as the winner will get 2 free copies of each book, signed, and with a head-sketch.

Today, I was beating myself up trying to remember if I mentioned my pal, Justin Rasch's blog in a previous post, so to give my mind a rest I'll do it today. Justin and his whole family is so gifted and inspirational, not only with their skill, talent and vision, but also as a family. When Ichiban (my wifey) and I have our own children we'd want to be as loving day in and day out as the Rasch family.

My first storyboards debut on G.I.Joe Renegades.

My first storyboards debut came out on the new G.I.Joe Renegades series. My section was from 7:09-8:35.

Loved the G.I.Joe Renegade designs by the ever so talented Clement Sauve.

After seeing how my G.I. Joe storyboards came out, I'm really stoked to see how my Scooby Doo storyboards came out since those will be my first boards ever.

This year I wanted to really challenge myself with different line of work, and boy-howdy did I ever. Boarding a tough gig. I can't thank my directors enough for the opportunity(s). Much props to all the storyboarders out there. It takes a heckuva mindset to draw your sections. Luckily, I was able to tackle a few pages of script here and there to ease into it. It was a really nice challenge and a great way to get a taste of other avenues outside of just designing characters.

Holey smokes, is Caleb on fire. Here's more panels we collabed on for my Gumshoes 4 Hire property.

Geez, if his kung-fu wasn't already mighty, right?!

The approach we were going for for these B7 backgrounds is a water color feel. Like Lilo and Stitch's approach but a little edgier I reckon? This is the route I'm thinking of pushing Bastion's 7.

After Caleb turned these in I was pretty much breathless... (and still am) He had me at "You got mail, kid!"

Like a kid running with scissors, I ran to Photoshop to test some of the characters on top to see if they pop and gel well.

V for Voltron

Wow... I haven't tried to tackle Voltron (one of my all-time child hood favorites), since I was in grade school. He was always a challenge to draw, and now I remember why I steered away from it. HAHAHA

One of the things that I wish Voltron could do was grapple more. I always felt it was unfair to the villains that once the sword was formed, then the show was pretty much over. HAHAHA

Here I thought it'd be cool to explore that the hands come out from the inside of the mouth, and then the top of the heads were for backslapping punks. HAHAHAHAHAHA

Wrapping it up, this is a rough mock up for a Voltron pin-up I hope to finish in time for the Voltron art of book coming out next year.

Here's a pin-up I did for a magazine called "72". The issue I drew it for was for their Monkey King tribute. It hasn't come out yet, but I believe it will within the next couple of months.

Also I figured you might be interested to see that I drew them separate. For some reason I LOVE drawing the whole body as it's own entity. I rough it all out together, and then I clean each element separate... I like to show the paper who's it's daddy. hahaha

Hey, gang. San Diego Comic Con 2010

I just got confirmation that my spot at San Diego Comic 2010 is at booth # 2544. My boy, Ryan Benjamin :iconryanbnjmn: and I will be setting up shop together and launching our new books; Pancratia: Round 2, and Cheeks: Freshly Squeezed.

We're sitting at the same exact spot as last year. To make it easier, here's a map. hehehe

:UPDATE: Sorry, gang! I had to "draw" (insert laugh here) the line somewhere... I'm up to 500 Ugg Muggs I gotta knock out. Once that's done and I've regained my sanity, then we'll pick it up again. Just a FYI and a lil backstory....
I suck at caricatures, but it's always fun to do.
I used to do caricatures at Sea World down in San Diego in 2000. I was only there for a month. The kids were too brutally honest. HAHAHAHA Here's the one that got me running out the door... "That doesn't look like my sister.... that looks like a boy!" DOH! HAHAHAHAHAHA I never went back. Props to caricature artists. Very hard to draw likenesses on the spot in 7 minutes.

I just picked up the new book Nickelodeon put out of Avatar: The Last Airbender; The Art of the Animated Series.

One of my favorite books of all time to date. There's so much goodies and inspiration from cover to cover, that I couldn't resist to draw Appa.

Hey gang... wow... it's been a minute since I have been able to get back onto the online art communities. Been playing catch-up with my deadlines ever since I've been back from Heroes Con.

Man, that con was a blast! One of my favorites for sure. Big thank you to everyone that cruised by the table to say howdy and show your gorgeous work off! You all made our con so memorable.

Here's a cover I worked up today of some new character designs I did for my pals over at Animation Rigs. It's for their book Anim-mates "Designers Unleashed". The book will be launched this year at their booth at San Diego Comic Con :)

The book is a tribute to every artist that poured blood and sweat into creating new characters and exciting new worlds. It's a great inside look at the collaborative thought and creative process from design to 3D.

Double Blog Dare Tour!

Just now able to come up for some fresh air from some deadlines ever since Ichiban and I got back from Heroes Con in Charlotte. Man, we had such a good time! It was great to catch up with friends and drool over some awesome artwork we saw throughout the weekend. Thank you to everyone that stopped by our table and we hope to see ya all again next year!

Now I can let the secret out of why I made the Little Big Heads patches.

Ichiban and my mother-in-law have been such tremendous sports spending their free-time making some new stuff for us to launch at Heroes Con this coming weekend. One is an art bag, and the other is a pencil supply bag. These are all handmade, so it is very limited. We are only bringing a 7 art bags and 7 pencil supply bags.

Some of you were asking if I'll be bringing my sketchbooks there and the answer is heck yeah! :P

Today was a really fun day. I was invited to come check out Blizzard Studios. Man, I was super inspired by the campus and all the cool, and talented folks there.

I wanted to try something new this year, and I thought long and hard... hmmmm... what to do.... what to do..... light in noggin goes off, and BOOYAKINS!!!! PATCHES! :)

These patches are going on something that I'll keep a secret for now...nope not a shirt.... nope not on undies, or on a 10-toed sock.... I'll tell ya later when the time gets closer.
